We have, on occasion, fostered rescued Elkhounds who were awaiting forever homes. All of these dogs have found permanent homes through the JNMRF elkhound rescue organization. There are always Elkhounds in need of adoption, and if you are interested in a rescued Elkhound, please visit www.elkhoundrescue.org. There are many reasons that Elkhounds end up as rescues...sometimes the owner dies or moves to a place where dogs are not allowed; sometimes there are personality conflicts amongst resident dogs...and most are wonderful dogs who just need a second chance. Please consider a rescue if you are looking for an Elkhound. Most of the dogs up for adoption through JNMRF have been assessed by an experienced Elkhound person. Unlike a puppy, you’ll have a good idea of the personality (and size!) of the Elkhound you are adopting. If you are looking for an Elkhound, please consider giving a home to a rescue! We believe strongly in adoption; however, please scroll down for information on animal welfare vs animal rights extremists. If you are donating time or money to an organization, please be informed and make sure your donation is going to the preservation of the animal-human bond. Scroll further down the page for more information on animal rights vs animal welfare. |

Animal Welfare vs Animal Rights
Elvbend STRONGLY opposes irresponsible breeders and puppy mills. We believe that anyone who breeds should rescue, be it through fostering, transport, or financial donations. However, the dog community is currently under attack, nationwide. Animal rights extremists are supporting (financially) bills that would eventually eliminate the ability of ANYONE to breed dogs – or birds, or cats, or cattle, for that matter. The big players in this movement are HSUS (Human Society of the United States) and ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). Although many people believe that HSUS supports local shelters and “humane societies,” in fact, they do not own nor support a single shelter. The donations they receive are used to fund anti-animal, anti-breeder legislation. Before you donate to these supposed animal welfare organizations, please take the time to explore their true agendas. Please take a moment to check out nainaonline.org, saova.org, and animalscam.com. Animals do, indeed, need our help, but it’s important that they receive the right kind of help! |
